Relaxed Power

Relaxed Power is the title of a great friend’s recently published book, and I recommend it for anyone interested in personal leadership, self-realization and living with purpose.

Tangela Johnson is one of the most intuitive and talented people I know. We found each other years ago when I presented on wealth building strategies to professional and executive women.

Tangela rocked my world on several levels, stirring questions and concepts that I continue to pursue and explore. I took this intuitive woman seriously and decided then never to underestimate or ignore a gift. Seven years after that initial meeting, it’s fair to say Tangela and I both believe it’s our DUTY to fully realize and explore our potential and talents. This is how we best serve the world.

Our early conversations prompted a paradigm shift for me: If my workday was consumed by men (both as colleagues and clients) as it had been for almost two decades, and if a woman had to assert herself to get the help she needs, how many women outside of the institution who might not be as bold at Tangela are not engaged and don’t know where to turn? Could this be an ocean of people who have all the potential in the world and just need knowledge
or guidance?

Tangela sparked in me an awareness of my own intuition and desire to figure out my purpose and calling. In so many words, she demanded that I do this! Over the subsequent years, we’ve had numerous conversations around the belief that when leaders become more self-realized, their organizations and people will respond in magical ways.

Briefly, she does touch on “money” as a topic relevant to self-discovery and realization. As we continue to achieve success and monetize our value, there may be moments on the journey when we realize that what we are being paid to do may not be our calling, and may not exercise our gifts and talents to the max. She describes how she navigated a necessary transition thoughtfully and with intention which near term created a financial “step back” but long-term better aligned with her vision, interests and drives.

Relaxed Power is a fascinating and easy read. It’s clear that Tangela hopes others will benefit from nuggets of wisdom – wins, losses and learnings – that she’s experienced along the way. Her entrepreneurial spirit comes through loud and clear; her message is designed to inspire to action anyone who doubts their own self-determination. As a veteran wealth-advisor, I know that progress on this journey is what truly constitutes a rich life.
